Good Eats With My Gardening Group

This past Saturday my gardening group met and sampled some of our home grown fruits and vegetables during our regular monthly meeting.

The spread was mouth watering, not to mention how good it was for the tummy.


We had quite a variety of good things.
Fresh tomatoes and mozzarella cheese salad, salsa and black bean dip, peach sangria.
Fried okra, sausage and sauerkraut.

For desert we feasted on cherry cobbler and ice cream.

When dinner was over, we took up our hostess's invitation to stroll through
her small vegetable garden.




We wandered around asking questions about this plant and that.

She talked about her watering system and mulch choices.

One of our favorite plants was this huge Kale.


It was a lovely evening all around, what better way to spend a Saturday night than

with friends that share your passion.

Our Travels To Greece

This Summer my sister Susan, my niece Kate, and I took a fabulous vacation to Greece. We were celebrating Kate's recent graduation from The University of Tennessee.

We started out in Athens where we had two days of sightseeing and shopping.

On the third day we boarded a ferry and sailed to Mykonos.

The Hotel Petinos Beach became our home for the next three nights. We were delighted with everything about the Petinos, lovely rooms, great view, excellent service. After breakfast we would walk down to the beach and spend the morning. We napped in the afternoon, then explored the town of Mykonos in the evenings.

The food and atmosphere was great everywhere we went. I don't think we had a bad meal during the whole trip.

There was a photo op anywhere you turned, the white washed buildings, the pink and purple bougainvillea, and of course the sea.

We saw the famous windmills that Mykonos is known for and were told by our guide that this was the location for the last scene in the movie, "Borne Identity".

Late May, early June was our travel time, which we found to be perfect. It was not yet peak for the islands and much cooler and less congested for our visit.

We left Mykonos and traveled to our second island, Santorini where we stayed at the El Greco Hotel in Firo. This hotel was nice, but not as inviting as the Petinos in Mykonos.

One of the day trips we took while in Santrini was to the town of Oia. This was one of my favorite places. Oh, to be able to rent a house here and stay for a month or two.

We wandered around Oia, stopping in open doorways of shops and galleries.

We had a lovely lunch over looking the Aegean Sea.

Saw this really sweet restaurant called " The Red Bicycle", and wished we could eat again.

Back in Firo we had the option of riding the mules down to the bottom of the cliffs. Just snapping a picture was enough for us.

It was a wonderful, relaxing trip and would recommend it to all our friends. Can't wait to go again!

My Space at Buttermilk Cottage

Buttermilk Cottage

Four years ago my sister and I purchased a house together and christened it Buttermilk Cottage. She has the downstairs and the upstairs is mine. We both share a love for decorating but have different styles, she is French Country, I'm more Shabby Chic. Having our own spaces is an ideal arrangement for us, when we get tired of something, we can simply change it. We don't have to worry about stepping on the other's toes. We can also bounce ideas off each other, get recommendations, and keep the other grounded.

What could be better than sharing a house you love, with your sister and best friend. I say not much.

Susan's Violets

It's Sunday morning and I'm kicking back on the front porch. The sky can't make up it's mind if it is going to rain or not. I've been looking through my pictures and found these great ones of my sister's violets. Susan is not much for gardening outdoors, but can shed grow some violets!

The key to her success is consistent fertilizing and rotation from there permanent home to the window every few weeks.

Another tip, she always waters them from the bottom. I've tried growing violets upstairs in my space, but they never do as well. I always end up giving them to her...and they take off.

Oxalis

My sister quickly confiscated one for the kitchen an I put the other one in my upstairs sitting room.

When I went to my computer to find out more, I was amazed to find that there are over nine hundred species of oxalis. Thank you Mary Lee' I'm so glad I have two.

New Shoes

I just wanted to do a quick

way for "Back to School" .
