It's usually like pulling teeth to get pictures of
Dixie and Daisy together.

Today, for some unknown reason they were both
being somewhat cooperative.

More Bunny Love for April.

COMFORT ZONE

Do you have a favorite "go to" spot
when you have a need in the garden?

Someplace that's owned and operated by people who
have their roots in the community?

A place, even if you don't really need anything
you still want to go and just
wander around.

That place for me is Mize.
It's with in walking distance from my house
and always fun to peek into.

The shelves and isles are always stocked with everything
you could possibly need for your
yard, garden or pets.

They even have a section for the horse.

My very favorite section
is the seed section.

You can buy your seeds from glass jars and ladle them out
with wooden spoons.

They store their peas and beans in wooden bins

as well as their many varieties of corns.

But if that's too rustic for you
you can pick your heart's desire from the
Wall of Seeds!

Happy Gardening

DAD

Meet my Dad. His name is Bill,and he celebrated his
eighty fifth birthday last Wednesday.

He's been married to the same woman for more than sixty years.

He "wows" me everyday.

Every morning you'll find Mom, Dad and their dog Chester

sitting in front of the glass sliding doors

watching the birds feed.

About seven or eight years ago my Dad inherited an
eighty acre farm with a modest house on it. He sold our family home
and moved to a small rural town in Tennessee.
He absolutely loves it... I can't say the same for my Mom.



Dad made his living working with his hands.
He was a machinist for NASA for many, many years.
He is happiest when is building, making or fixing something.
Lately it has been birdhouses.
Walking around the grounds this past week on my visit
I counted eight blue bird houses he had made.

He loves birds and is constantly modifying his houses.

Another birdhouse given to him as a gift.

He even has two Martin birdhouses he made,

already stored for the Winter.

As I said, he loves to tinker,
and he has lots of spaces in which to do it.

This is one of his outbuildings.

The first time I walked the property
and really looked around,

I understood
why a MAN
would be so quick to move.

This is his work shop...it's mind boggling!


A four car garage filled with MAN stuff!

Stuff in the rafters.
Stuff on the walls.

Stuff on the cabinets.

Stuff everywhere.

BUT WAIT...THERE'S MORE

More tools than I've ever seen outside of Lowe's.

Organized chaos

One, of what seems like a hundred drawers.

All filled with stuff.

What is it all,
why do you need it,
and who would want it?

My Dad knows all the answers.

Every time I go to visit,
I usually take him something to fix for me.

I know if he can't fix it,
it can't be fixed.

He has random things everywhere,
and I wonder,

what's the story behind it all.

My Dad is a quiet man, he relishes solitude.

This is Heaven to him.

He's worth his weight in gold.

My wonderful Dad and his world.

What's next on the work bench??

A STROLL THROUGH THE GARDEN

How can it be Sunday again, already?

The days just seem to be flying by.
Don't get me wrong I'm glad it's Sunday...
I'm off...but everything seems to be changing
before my eyes.
Can we ever have enough time?

Here's what I found today as I strolled through the garden.
My "Little Lanterns" Columbine are starting to bloom.

The Cone Flowers are coming up strong. Several gals
at work are starting new gardens so I'm taking them
some of my babies.

The side bed that divides our yard with my
lovely elderly neighbor's yard is coming along well,
if we can only keep the crabgrass out.
It was once a beautiful Rose Garden,
but has fallen on hard times.

Anna can no longer work in the garden and I know nothing
about roses. I did however pick two
yellow "Knock Out " rose bushes to plant in the bed.

Bugleweed and Strawberry Candy Day Lilies.

Pretty pink tulips.

A bird feeder I made from an old blue bottle and saucer.

A Dogwood Tree in front of the house.

May Apple.

And I end the stroll back at our beautiful
blooming and ever so sweet
Lilac Tree.
