Ladybug, ladybug fly away home.
Your house is on fire and your children are gone.

It's said that the ladybug brings with her, good fortune.
If she lands on your hand or dress and is allowed to
fly away on her own, she will leave you with
very good luck.

Have you been seeing Ladybugs around and about
in the garden this Spring?
I've encountered quite a few already
this year.

Ladybugs, also known as Ladybirds in the UK, Ireland,
and Australia are actually not a bug or bird at all.
They are however a member of the
beetle family and in most cases a friend
to the gardener.
They love to feast on aphids and scale insects.

This gardener is wishing you much luck
in the garden this year.

  1. Now only i know why it is called ladybug or ladybird! My daughter was asking me few times but i didn't know how to answer! And now only i realised it is from the beetle family! Haha. I'm such an ignorant person!!

  2. Sigh.... I don't think of them as being good luck at all. They are nothing but pests here at my house. They make it into the house in the Fall. Then they come out in the Spring. We see them year round in our house. They swarm around the house. My neighbor says she is allergic to them. They do put off an odor when you squash them and they also will stain whatever it is that they are squashed on. We just have too many! Sigh....

I do think they are pretty though! lol But they are a big pests around here.

    Tuesdays' Show & Tail!

  3. I like them in the garden just fine, but the ones I've seen at the beach will pinch you till it hurts! OUCH!

  4. I'm late tonight, but so glad I stopped by to see some of my favorite things... ladybugs! I can still remember how fun it was to have them land on me as a child and say that little rhyme. I still love them! Ann
