TRASH TO CASH

Have you ever taken a few vacation days off from work and ended up going back more tired

than when you started? That was me this past weekend. What ever happen to relaxing during

vacation? Seems like that's a thing of the past. Always something to do, or someplace to go, or a

project to complete.

This weekend was the annual Tree Street Yard Sale event in my neighborhood.

Don't get me wrong, it is a great event, hundreds of families participate, and it brings thousands of people from our town in to shop and share the fun.

Yard sale preparation can be a little overwhelming, for me anyway. If I hadn't had my sister, Susan to keep me on track, I don't know if it would have been so successful for us.

My first reaction to the state of our basement...

FREAK OUT!!!!!!

I'm talking really scary.

Organization was the key. We had to have a plan.

I just had to breathe and keep the faith, and everything fell into place.

Making your trash look like treasures is always a good idea. When there are hundreds of yard sales to compete with, you have to make yours inviting.

We tried to group like things together and tell a story.

We priced everything with the exception of clothes and fifty cent items, but tried to sing out the prices on signs we made on the computer.

When it was all set, our motto was...

WORK IT BABY, WORK IT!!!

We were ready to bargain, we had decided, nothing that we took out to the sale was coming back into the house. The last hour we were pretty much giving it away, but that was okay with us.

When it was over we only had to pack up a suitcase full of shoes and two boxes of clothes.

Luckily for us there were scavengers combing the streets ready to pick up your left over items, for who knows what. We said, "have at it!"

Now it's all over but the shouting, we've lightened our load considerably.

It's time to finally relax.

A LITTLE BIRDY TOLD ME

Today four baby birds are saying hello to the world.

We have been watching a nest on our front porch for the past few weeks and this morning we found four little birds hopping around.

They built the nest right behind our porch fairy.

Can you see the little eye peeking out?

I have no idea what kind they are, Sparrows, maybe.

The Mother has been staying close by and bringing food.

Their legs were very wobbly and feathers fluffy.

After hopping and fluttering around for about an hour, they finally flew away to the lilac tree,

and then beyond.

Happy gardening and bird watching everyone.

MORNING GLORY

Have you ever had a vision in your mind?

There was no question, you could recreate it.

Something so beautiful and so simple, how could you fail?

Just a couple of packets of seed, the good earth and

Mother Nature.

Well...this gardeners here to tell,
it don't always work!!!
This past early Summer,
I purchased a few packs of Morning Glory seed. I've planted red Morning Glories,in the past, so didn't expect any problems. In my mind, I could see all these pops of blue color in my garden. I planted some by a little white fence at the side of my garden. I threw a few into a pot with some Mandevilla
I even constructed a bamboo tee pee in my shared garden with Anna. Lastly I planted a few in Anna's yard (my elderly neighbor) around a tree.

I don't know if I planted them too late, or the poor rain fall
we received but I was sorely disappointed.

One of the only decent blooms I've seen so far has been climbing up Anna's tree.

Oh well, there's always next year.
Happy gardening.

GLORIOUS GLORIOUS RAIN

Oh, how I have learned to appreciate the rain.
I do the happy dance every time I see the first signs of precipitation.
My poor garden has been crying out for rain all Summer, no matter how hard I try, I just can't seem to give my plants and flowers enough water.
This week has been a God send, it has rained some every day, and at times a real gusher.
Gardening teaches us so many valuable lessons, being grateful is one that's at the top of my list.

Happy gardening everyone and thank you for stopping by.

IN THE PINK

I never really thought of myself as a PINK person, but once I got into gardening, it just kind of evolved. I'm talking about my Summer garden, my Spring has a completely different color pallet.

I think one of the reasons I've acquired so many pink plants, is the introduction to all the lovely flowers that show up every Spring and Summer that aid the Breast Cancer.

A second reason so much PINK is in my life is of course due to the fact that I'm a Victoria's Secret girl, after all one of their most successful brands is PINK

These are a few of the pink roses that are in my neighbor's and my adjoining bed. I have to confess they were not planted by me but I tend them and enjoy them now that Anna is unable to.

Someone ask me once what was the name of this beautiful pink Iris, unfortunately I do not know.

Shades of PINK from my Cheddar pinks.

Razzmatazz, a PINK cone flower from the Breast Cancer selections

Our beautiful, late blooming Crepe Myrtle

Happy gardening to all.

The Garden Gate

BEYOND THE GARDEN GATE
Step into my garden
Step in and you'll see
A measure of peace
And tranquility.
It's the scent of the blossoms
The buzz of the bees
The sweet song of birds
As they sing in the trees.
The sweet scent of roses
Their petals so new
As they glisten and sparkle
With the fresh morning dew.
Run your toes through the grass
Beneath a canopy of trees
Hear the rustle of leaves
As they blow in the breeze.
Let the beauty of springtime
Fill your soul with great peace
Take it with you and share it
With each one you meet.

My garden is without a garden gate, but I long for one.
