SPRING PROJECT NUMBER TWO

Last Fall on my trip

to Germany

I was inspired by all the

window boxes.

 

Everywhere we toured

I saw trailing geraniums.

Window boxes, pots,

just everywhere.

 

It's time for me to start my

window boxes

so I decided to try my luck

with the trailing geraniums.

 

At my local greenhouse

they were labeled as

vine geraniums.

I'm hoping it's the same plant.

 

I chose two colors,

a dark red and pink.

 

Here they are.

Ready for the window ledge.

I put three plants in each of my

four boxes...praying that's enough.

Now all I have to do is

water and wait.

 

I will show you what they

look like in a few weeks.

FIRST SPRING PROJECT

 Yesterday nice and sunny!

Today, cold and rainy.

 

I'm glad I got some pictures of my garden

and spring trees because after today

who knows what it will look like.

I think they are predicting

in the 30s tonight.

Yuck!

 

 

Anyway, I started my Spring

 project list yesterday.

Last year I had found these little pots at

 Salvation Army.

I had seen a succulent wreath on Pinterest

and thought I'd give it a try.

 

 

Now keep in mind this is just an experimental project.

It may not pan out at all.

Sometimes I think the things you see on pinterest

are great but when you get right down to

brass tacks...they don't work at all.

 

First I wired the pots to a grapevine wreath.

 

Then I searched in my lingerie drawer

 for a pair of old pantyhose.

 

 

Filled the legs with succulent soil.

 

 

Also made some little balls for

the upside down pots.

 

I had some sad little pots of succulents

that barely made it through

the winter.

 

I wrapped the pantyhose legs around the pots

and planted the succulents I had

in some of the pots.

Now keep in mind I know

I need to buy a few more succulents.

 

 

You are supposed to break a little hole through

the pantyhose and plant you succulents,

they should spread...

we'll see.

 

 

This was my inspiration picture,

sorry not very clear.

For all I know these succulents

were artificial.

Again I say...

we'll see.

 

I'll give you an update

in about a month.

By the way, newsflash

Its now snowing outside,

I can't believe it.

Double Yuck!

IT'S JUST FOR ME

I've been creating up-cycled sweater wreaths for my

etsy shop for some time now,

I've decided to make something

just for me.

 

My favorites are the

white on white.

 

 

So I decided to do four mini wreaths

and frame them

for my bedroom wall.

 

I found some scrip scrapbook paper

at Hobby Lobby

that was perfect to back them with.

 

I'm very pleased at how they

turned out.

Each one different,

 

but together, a very cohesive grouping.

 

They are all very representative of what I do.

I love the sweaters I find that

have beautiful cable work.

UP-CYCLED SWEATER WREATHS...MY PROCESS

I've been perfecting my latest passion since last October and 

I must say, I'm so enjoying it.

I create wreaths from up-cycled sweaters.

 

I've dabbled in wreath making for some time now

but last year when my sister got into making

pillow cover out of up-cycled sweaters,

I wondered, what can I do with

up-cycled sweaters?

 

 

The first step in finding the sweaters.

You don't want to pay too much for them

since you'll be cutting them up.

My favorite places,

Goodwill and Salvation Army.

 

 

I've created a little nook in my sitting room

where I can work.

It's not ideal, but you've just got to

make it work.

Every time I make a new wreath

I learn something new.

A new technique or tip.

Instead of wrapping strips of the sweater

around the wreath frame,

I've found, cutting one continuous strip using the front

and back of the sweater works best.

No raw edges.

 

 

 

 

Then using my glue gun

I glue the sweater onto the frame.

 

When I saw this little sweater at Goodwill,

I knew it would make a

sweet little wreath

for Spring.

 

 

It's amazing what you can create out of all

the different parts of the sweater.

Cuffs, the neck line,

 buttons, tabs, etc.

 

 

So there you have it.

Christmas morning

and we are ready

for brunch

 

 

 

 

 

I had to include the sweet

Santa and snowmen

Rick and Terry

sent us from

Germany

 

 

It was like having them

there for the meal.

 

 

Eggs, Brown Sugar Bacon,

our traditional Butterscotch Pecan Roll,

and a new item...

Spicy Cheese Grits.

 

 

Yum, yum!

CHRISTMAS PUMPKINS

What do you do

 with left over pumpkins

from the Fall season?

 

 

This year we had lots of pumpkins

at Buttermilk Cottage

We had decided to go with an Autumn theme

for our Holiday Show...

and just kept buying pumpkins.

 

 

I couldn't bare to just throw them away

and there were just too many

for the compost bin.

SO...my next solution

SPRAY PAINT.

 

 

 

It's amazing how far one can of paint will go.

 

 

Since they were staying outside in the yard,

I didn't even worry about

painting the bottom.

 

 

I scattered them all over the back yard,

and thought I was done.

Then Sue comes home and says,

"No one can see them in the backyard."

 

 

 

So I drag them all back around to the front porch

and try to make a Christmas

statement.

 

 

How long will they last?

I have no idea,

but we'll just enjoy

and hope for the best.

 

 

Do you still have pumpkins

hanging out?

You can buy a can of metallic paint

at Lowes for about four bucks.

 

 

 

Now what else can I salvage?

The wheels are turning!
