CARVING OUT A CORNER

It is so hard to believe October has come and gone.
Seems like it was just yesterday
I was changing my bedroom from Summer to Fall.
Now we are into November and
I'm already thinking about decorating for Christmas,
I hear you...what about
Thanksgiving you say...well I'm thankful every day of the week
and in this household
Thanksgiving gets somewhat lost.
We are hosting a Holiday Show and Sale
November 19th.-21st
My sister Susan, who is an incredible designer/artist
along with several of her artist friends are coming together
for their second annual
Fiber Art Show.
This year it lands two weeks earlier
so our home must be decked for Christmas
one week before Thanksgiving.

Last week I moved a large piece of furniture (quilt shelf)
out of my bedroom.
My hope was, to create a space that would generate
creative thought.

And so...here it is.

I moved my bed around to a larger wall to make a little more room
in the corner for my desk and chair.

The desk was formerly at the end of the bed
in the other arrangement.

I had lots of used frames in the basement.

Some were given a fresh coat of paint, others I

used "as is".

I decided to go with a black and white scheme. I felt like it would go with
almost any decor in the bedroom.
Also I snagged some great hounds tooth paper that
Victoria's Secret was getting rid of
(it pays to work at VS, in more ways than one).

I backed all the frames with the paper and then made a

collage with them.
Then I just started putting things I love on them.
Favorite prints, favorite pins,
favorite anything.

This is a new print I recently got from Etsy.

It's by an artist named Tracy Lizotte. Her site is
Oodles of Doodles
Paintings and Prints
tmlcreations.etsy.com
When you have a minute check out her online store,
she has some amazing things.

I love this silk flower pin.

I purchased it last year at our 2009 Holiday Show.

Carolyn White is the Fiber Artist, everything she does is beautiful.

I wore it on my black & white herringbone coat
all last winter and got loads of compliments.

I'm big on mixing hard and soft things together.

I created this piece from one of my Aunt Virginia's hand made
doilys and a zipper pin I picked up at a jewelry show.
I like it!

I've just used this and that, some were gifts, others I've picked up

here and there.

Another toss from Victoria's Secret, this bright blue

ladder formally in the PINK window.

So there you have it, my little corner.

I'll be joining some very exciting parties this week,
stop by and visit these amazingly creative people.

What a great place you have created...it is always easier to come up with new ideas when you are surounded by pretty and interesting things.(-: I am a fan of black and white - the colors in my workroom too, so I really appreciated what you did. And, thank you for visiting me and leaving such a nice comment.

  7. I love everything you've done here! I would love to find a ladder for my quilts. But every time I see one in an antique mall, it says not for sale. The black and white is very fetching. Love all the light you get in your room!
