Chevron Birds

I went to the craft store the other day
and found this
chevron paper...

had to have it.

I went right home and started folding.
Have I mentioned lately
that I'm obsessed
with folding birds?

Anyway I've got two new listings up on
etsy of my chevron
origami birds.

Come see me and my birds.

Happy Sunday.

WINDOW BOXES FOR ME

I've been collecting window box pictures on Pinterest
all Winter for ideas and inspiration.
I know I should have a
killer,
spiller,
and filler.

This is how my boxes started this Spring.
Early last Fall I had added a few Mums
to my existing boxes and they made it
through the winter.

Here are my boxes today.

In the end, after so much looking and planning,
I just got some plants from the
 "drastically reduced"
section of Lowes.
$17 for the lot.

I'm learning that I can waste a lot of time
dreaming and searching.

When you are a girl on a budget,
sometimes you need to compromise
and go with what's available.

They still have some filling out to do,
but I think they'll work.

No regrets.

And the Mums should be pretty
this Fall.

Happy Gardening.

Patience Is A Virtue

Back in March I placed an order with Michigan Bulb for some plants
and they arrived about a month ago.
When I unpacked them, I was very disappointed.
I thought...no way in heck will these ever amount to anything,
I've wasted my money!
I had ordered some sedium, succulents, grasses and
 assorted other plants.

They were all so fragile and almost falling apart.
I decided they would never make it in the ground, so I transplanted them
into larger pots and decided to
wait and see.

A couple of weeks later, I still didn't feel good about
putting them into the ground.
I decided to re-pot the succulents and sedium
 into an old strawberry pot
and wait again.

Here they are today on this beautiful Memorial Day.
I never would have believed it.

The verdict is still out on some others
but I am a bit more optimistic.
Happy Memorial Day
and
Happy gardening.

Holy Moley!

This past weekend my sister, Susan and I headed home
to visit our parents and celebrate my Dad's
87th. birthday.

Little Daisy was there for the party as well
which meant I spent lots of time
in my parents backyard.

Their backyard is CRAZY!
It's like walking on a sponge.
My Dad says it's moles
and that he has done everything he can think of
to get rid of them.

I have never seen a mole for myself,
and at first glance they look
kind of cute.

But on further investigation...
not so much.

I'm not sure if there are different kinds
or what he actully has,
it could be just a few living below the surface
or an underground army.

What I do know is this,
the man has PROBLEMS!
I can't tell you more right now,
I haven't done my research.
Hello Google!

Happy Gardening.

The backyard pictures are mine
the moles are from Google.

HAPPY EASTER

Happy Easter everyone.
The day started out a little soggy
but it soon turned itself right.
A little overcast but
a pleasant day all
in all.

The garden is certainly showing off its
sunny colors.

The daffodils that have survived the snow
are pretty as a picture.

These have just opened up.
They were planted this past Fall.

I'm so glad I have planted some
early, medium, and late
bloomers, otherwise
they'd be all gone by now
with the weather we've had lately.

Easter Dinner for two today.
Sadly, Kate could not join us this year,
she is still in NY doing big girl stuff.
My sister Susan and I sat down
to my favorite holiday meal.
Ham, potato salad, deviled eggs, green beans, and
an old family salad recipe from my Mom.

 I've been practicing my origami
and have taught myself
how to make a simple
butterfly.

We've got plans
to have a evening ham sandwich
and watch the new
 Masterpiece Theatre series
Selfridge.
Hoping it's half as good as
Downton Abby,
if so, it'll be great.

Again, Happy Easter.

ME OH MY PIE!

I'm baking a pie...
and I don't know why!
Just kidding, I really do.
I've been inspired by a couple of things lately.
First off, Pinterest, and all the
delicious and delightful
pictures of pie
just make my mouth water.

Secondly, back on March 14th.
I saw that there is a
National Pie Day.
Actually I got that wrong,
March 14th is National Pi Day
that celebrates the mathematical constant Pi.
According to the American Pie Council,
the National Pie Day
was in January,
January 23rd in fact.

I often say...
I don't cook.
My kitchen is a closet,
no, literally, a closet.
When my sister and I moved into
our home here at
Buttermilk Cottage
(I took the upstairs, she the downstairs)
we coverted a walk in closet into a mini kitchen.

Okay, the saying is
easy as pie.
I gave it a try.
Granted mine doesn't even resemble
the one on Pinterest,
but what the ha.
This is my version of
French Coconut Pie.

I already get some of my mistakes,
that crust is pretty bad.
But I'm game to try again.

Stay tuned for my next
Me Oh My
Pie.

Have a great day
