To Kill A Mockingbird Turns Fifty

One of my favorite books turns 50 years old this July. I fell in love with “To Kill A Mockingbird”, not in high school like most people, but after college when I was in my 20s. I could read it over and over again and still love it each time. The movie with Gregory Peck, IS by far, my all time favorite movie. There is a line in the movie where Atticus compares one of his neighbor’s garden to the famous Bellingrath Gardens, oh what a charmer. Many years after I was introduced to the Bellingrath Gardens through that movie, my Mother and I took a trip there and spent the most amazing day wandering around and enjoying the lovely home and gardens. I’m not sure when I got the gardening bug, but there is a good chance that trip planted the seed.
It’s a wonderful Saturday in July and even though it’s very hot, there is a bit of a breeze this evening. My sister and I are about to have a light supper of homemade roasted red pepper hummas and a glass of wine. Here’s to you Harper Lee and the wonderful book you gave to us 50 years ago. Happy gardening!

  1. Hi,
Stumbled upon your TKAM tribute. I've written about this great literature a couple of times. Hope you stop in! Love the link to gardening.
